Wolverhampton Wanderers: Vitor Pereira ends wait to manage in Premier League

New Wolves coach Vito Pereira says he has been chasing his Premier League dream for 14 years.

The Portuguese moved to Molineux signed an 18-month contract on Thursday Ending his wait for a job in the UK.

Pereira has been close to joining Everton many times since 2010. This week he replaced Gary O’Neill as Wolves and achieved his goal of coaching in the Premier League. This is his 10th team in the past 11 years.

“My focus for the last 14 years of my career was coming to England,” he said after leaving Saudi Arabia’s al-Shabaab. “Competing against the best coaches, that’s where I want to be. I want to compete in this league and challenge myself and I’m ready.

“I remember my first step out of the country (Portugal) 14 years ago was to Saudi Arabia (Al-Ahli). When I left Porto, my target was a club in England.

“I had a meeting to come to the UK but I didn’t go to the UK after a prince knocked on the door and convinced me. I never thought I would go to Saudi Arabia.

“I had some offers from English clubs (in the past) but Wolves took a step forward and got the job done.”

Pereira takes over from Wolves, who are second from bottom and five points behind 17th-placed Leicester City, who face Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Sunday (14:00 GMT).
