“They should make sure they get clear images to show them continuing into the restricted area.”
Speaking in more detail about the Cerny and Skiles incident, Collum said: “A lot has been said about the Rangers players having one foot on the line. That foot doesn’t matter. It’s just about possession of the ball. , because that’s where the contact is.”
“The ball possession started outside the penalty area and then continued on the line, even beyond the line and completely into the penalty area. But, regardless of the fact that it was on the line, this should be regarded as a penalty kick.”
“The referee awarded a free kick on the pitch, he saw the tug and he correctly judged the incident as a foul.
“But then the VAR team needed to check and determine whether the incident was internal or external and ultimately they failed to come to the correct conclusion that this should be a factual overturn.
“There was no need for the referee to go to the monitor – the facts overturned the penalty.”
