Premier League predictions: Chris Sutton v Reverend & the Makers singer Jon McClure.
McClure is a lifelong Sheffield Wednesday fan, although he also has a family history with Everton.
“My father’s side of the family are actually Everton fans as my grandfather’s brother Joe McClure played for Everton in the 1930s, in the same team as Dixie Dean,” Jon told BBC Sport.
“But for me it’s always been Wednesday. My grandma danced with the players when they brought the FA Cup back to Sheffield in 1935, so I think she was a bit of a quintessential swinger.”
Jon is desperate to see the Owls return to the Premier League after being relegated in 2000, but can their manager Danny Rohr get there first after being linked with the Southampton vacancy?
“It’s been a long winter,” Jon added. “We have looked close to a return a few times over the years but we are now a bit worried about losing our manager because he is highly regarded by Southampton.
“We love Danny because he’s been brilliant for us. Our problem is our president Dejephon Chansiri, he’s not a bad guy but it’s frustrating because he doesn’t listen to the fans.
“I once had a Zoom call with him when he was in Bangkok and I was in Sheffield and I talked to him for two hours and only said two words to him – and he didn’t listen at all.
“So if you’re Danny Rohr and you might see the possibility of leaving Southampton, then that might look like an attractive offer. But I hope we can keep him because he is an excellent coach.
“The club is definitely ready for the Premier League as well. You can get around 40,000 people into Hillsborough and we fill that gap regularly – even though we’re already in the third tier.
“We are a good proposition for someone, we just need an ambitious owner.”
