Kieran Tierney Celtic transfer latest: Brendan Rodgers on defender

Rodgers reacts to the aftermath of Sunday’s League Cup final – which saw Rangers denied a penalty by the Scottish FA chief referee Willie Collum says it should be given – VAR will never be perfect as it is still open to human interpretation.

Ibrox lost the game after a 3-3 draw on penalties but in extra time Liam Scales pulled Vaclav Se on the edge of the Celtic penalty area Erney, referee John Beaton awarded a free kick.

“There’s always going to be issues and it’s ultimately still a human decision,” added Rodgers, who confirmed winger James Forrest will be out for six weeks and right-back Alistair Johnston is likely to miss Sunday’s clash Dundee United game.

“Everyone makes mistakes and you can see from the events why they made the decisions they did.

“Willie is trying to be transparent, which is a good thing because people have been saying for years that that’s not the case. He’s trying to be open and honest. Hopefully that helps the employees.”

“There’s always that story after Old Firm games – the most important thing is to go out there and win. I’m just worried about winning, and in the pressure moments, this team has done a great job.”

Rodgers hopes to agree a new deal with left-back Greg Taylor but admitted a number of players could leave in January and centre-back Stephen Welsh “could be one of them”.
