Wolves: Vitor Pereira appointed new head coach of Premier League strugglers
Wolves have been assessing their options for weeks and sounding out candidates, including former West Ham United manager David Moyes.
However, Pereira soon became the front-runner, winning La Liga titles with Porto in 2012 and 2013 and the Greek Super League title with Olympiacos in 2015.
He has been in charge of Al-Shabaab since February, keeping them sixth in the Saudi Professional League.
At the age of 56, he succeeded O’Neal. Appointed to Molineux in August 2023Wolves have lost 11 of their 16 Premier League games this season.
They have won just twice, against Southampton and Fulham, who have been under threat in each of their seven years in the top flight.
Wolves chairman Jeff Shi said: “Vittor is a well-respected and experienced coach who has achieved success in different leagues and will bring a new approach to the trials ahead.
“This is a challenging time for the club and we would like to thank Vito for taking on this responsibility.
“We have every confidence in his ability to lead us back on track with our players and staff and the whole club will be united in supporting him to succeed.”
