Scott McTominay & Billy Gilmour: Napoli’s Scottish duo thriving amid hard work & harder demands

Gilmour and McTominay have taken it in stride. The team has made a good start to the season and both sides are satisfied they made the right choice.

“You want to push yourself and see how far you can go,” Gilmore said.

The move marks another major career step for the 23-year-old. After leaving Rangers as a youngster to join Chelsea and win a Champions League medal, he was loaned to Norwich City, but the journey was anything but smooth.

Brighton had also seen better times before moving to Serie A.

“Brighton were great to me when I was rebuilding myself there,” he added. “I got my confidence back. When I left, it was never easy. But you know you’re doing the right thing and you have to take care of yourself on the football field.”

McTominay, for his part, admitted it would be difficult to leave United but said he had to “find number one”.

“It’s a big decision, but in some ways it’s very simple,” he said. “I saw the passionate fans, I saw the coach, I saw the players, I saw the opportunity.

“It didn’t take me long to make the decision because I knew it was what I wanted and I would never have any regrets in my life. I didn’t look back.”

“I love this place. I love the fans, I love my team-mates. It’s great to be with Billy every day and not just see him in Scotland, we help each other a lot.”

A big year is coming for Gilmour and McTominay in 2025. Full of hope, full of hope, full of hard work. Eat, sleep, train, repeat. Under the constant watchful eye of Mr. Conte, the arduous pursuit of glory continues.
