Rangers: SFA chief concedes ‘decisions will be wrong’ amid penalty anger

Maxwell added: “This is the first time this year I’ve been asked about a VAR decision. It’s not always the case.”

Referees chief Willie Collum is expected to discuss the incident during Thursday’s weekly VAR review.

“Willie’s transparency and the way he’s approached things since he came on board has been a breath of fresh air and has made a real impact on and off the pitch, and we hope to drive that trend forward,” Maxwell continued.

“People have been talking about referee decisions since the beginning of football and we will always talk about them more. It’s part of the game.

“There will never be an uncontroversial decision because people disagree about the decision.”

Rangers manager Philippe Clement called the incident – which occurred early in the first half of extra time – a “really decisive moment” and said the lack of VAR intervention was “bizarre”.

New Rangers chief executive Patrick Stewart said on Tuesday the club had asked for an explanation for the decision.
