Morocco Sets Ambitious Plans to Double Airport Capacity by 2030

Morocco aims to double airport passenger traffic from 38 million to 80 million by 2030 as part of preparations to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Spain and Portugal. Addressing parliament, Prime Minister Aziz Alhanous highlighted plans to expand Casablanca’s airport to accommodate 23.3 million passengers, and to make similar upgrades to tourist hubs Marrakech and Agadir. Infrastructure development includes extending the country’s high-speed rail network to Marrakech and Agadir, as well as renovating 45 stadiums and training centers in six cities. There are also plans for a new 115,000-seat stadium near Casablanca, with sports infrastructure investment estimated at $500 million. Morocco’s efforts highlight its dual focus on promoting tourism and demonstrating its readiness for global sporting events, including the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be hosted from December 2025 to January 2026.
