Vinicius Jr: Real Madrid’s Fifa Best winner says critics ‘continue to try to cancel me’
Vinicius, who joined Real Madrid from Flamengo in 2018, added: “They tried and continue to try to write me off, to belittle me. But they can’t.
“No one would tell me who I could fight for or how I should perform. When I was in (home) San Goncalo, the system didn’t work for me. I was almost swallowed up.
“I won for myself, for my family. Along the way, there was a lot of support: Flamengo, Real Madrid, the Brazilian national team, and hundreds of my teammates during those years… those who shared with me Everyday people, people who admire me as…the best player in the world. “
Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti and striker Kylian Mbappe both received individual honors at the Ballon d’Or ceremony, but neither was present to accept the award.
After Rodri was named men’s champion, Vinicius posted on X: “They are not ready yet.”
The Ballon d’Or and the FIFA Best Award are two of the most prestigious awards in football, and Vinicius collected his first FIFA award in Doha.
The award is awarded to the football community from August 2023 to August 2024 and is chosen by a public vote, one journalist from each country and the captain and manager of each national team. Each group receives 25% of the vote.
Real Madrid are already in Qatar for Wednesday’s FIFA Continental Cup final against Mexican side Pachuca at the Lusail Stadium.
