UK inflation rate rises for second month in a row
UK inflation rose for a second consecutive month, according to official data for November.
Figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) showed this figure rose to 2.6% from 2.3% in the year to October.
Fuel and clothing are among the main drivers of price increases. Prices for entertainment and cultural activities also increased.
The Bank of England raised interest rates in an attempt to keep inflation at its 2% target. The next interest rate decision will be made on Thursday, but economists expect rates to remain at 4.75%.
Grant Fitzner, chief economist at the ONS, said: “Inflation has risen again this month as motor fuel and clothing prices have risen this year but fell a year ago.”
“This was partly offset by air ticket prices, which normally fall at this time of year but which in November saw their biggest fall since records began at the start of this century.”
