Sports Personality of the Year 2024: Wigan Warriors win Team of the Year
The all-conquering Wigan Warriors have been named the 2024 BBC Sports Personality Team of the Year.
They dominated men’s rugby league all year, winning every major trophy they could get their hands on.
Matt Pitt’s side completed the Quadruple by winning the World Club Challenge, Challenge Cup, League Leaders Shield and Grand Final.
It meant Wigan repeated the 1994 team’s feat of winning all the major honors in one season 30 years later.
Since 2022, Wigan have won seven major trophies under Pitt – despite the manager having fewer than 100 games under his belt.
Speaking to BBC One, Pitt said: “It’s a huge honor to receive this award – Wigan have a history of winning this trophy.
“The club is in good shape, we have a close relationship and it all starts at the top with CEO Chris (Radlinski).
“We want to be successful and we have big ambitions.
“We try to represent the town as best we can and look at how we can help our supporters – it’s a great honor and privilege to work with these people.”
