Sports Personality of the Year 2024: Trevor Painter and Jenny Meadows win Coach of the Year
Painter and Meadows guided Hodgkinson to his first Olympic silver medal as a teenager at the Tokyo Games three years ago, before the Leigh athlete won back-to-back world silver medals in 2022 and 2023.
She then dominated the finals to capture the Olympic gold medal she and her team had been working towards.
The joint award was presented by London 2012 heptathlon champion Jessica Ennis-Hill and Athens 2004 800m and 1500m gold medalist Kelly Holmes To Painter and Meadows.
While Hodgkinson won the Olympic gold medal, teammate Bell also stood on the podium in Paris.
Bell retired from track and field in 2017 and was still working a full-time job at the beginning of this year.
But after reuniting with Painter three years ago, the 31-year-old followed up European silver in June with a fairytale 1500m bronze on his Olympic debut.
Meanwhile, 24-year-old David is now a three-time global relay medalist with a bronze medal in Paris, following two medals at last year’s world championships.
With the World Championships in Tokyo set for 2025, Painter and Meadows hope to guide their athletes to greater international success.
Last year, football manager Pep Guardiola was named Coach of the Year and his treble-winning Manchester City side won Team of the Year.
