Sports Personality of the Year 2024: Dr Mark Prince wins Helen Rollason Award

In 2006, his 15-year-old son Kiyan Murdered by a fellow teen When trying to break up an argument.
Kiyan was a talented footballer who joined the academy of Championship side Queens Park Rangers at the age of 13.
Speaking of his son’s death, Prince said: “I don’t think we were built for news like this.
“I wanted to do bad things. The pain was indescribable. Boxing is easy – it’s a different fight.
“The only thing I really had control over was how I handled the situation I was in. After Keyon passed away, I thought, ‘Why don’t I do this for my son?'”
Prince founded the Kiyan Prince Foundation, which has reached more than 100,000 children through its programs, life coaching and inspirational lectures.
He was named in the 2019 New Year Honors List for his work in tackling knife crime and was awarded an OBE.
The foundation secured the naming rights to QPR Loftus Road in 2019 It follows a public vote and has the support of current and former footballers including Les Ferdinand, Jamie Redknapp and Charlie Austin.
“The club is hugely supportive of Mark,” former QPR and England striker Rio Ferdinand told BBC Sport.
“What he brings is honesty and truth. In Mark, these boys can see themselves. They come from what he has done.”
This year marks Year 25 Helen Rollason Award.
Former javelin world record holder and Olympic medalist Fatima Whitbread Awarded in 2023previous winners include rugby league legend Rob Burrow, Scottish rugby union great Doddie Weir, Hillsborough campaigner Anne Williams , football fan Bradley Lowery and racing driver Billy Monger.
