Rangers: New CEO Patrick Stewart aims to get club where they ‘want to be’

Stewart said the men’s team had “turned their season around” and showed “real improvement” after trailing Aberdeen by nine points at one point.

Stewart added to the club’s media: “The players we signed in the summer are starting to really settle in and feel confident.”

“To be fair, Philip said it always takes time.”

Joe Potter’s women are second in the South West League, two points behind Glasgow City, and Stewart praised their consistency and said they were “in contention for the league title”.

Fraser Thornton also starts on Monday, with Stewart saying the non-executive chairman will take a “step away” from his role.

“Day in and day out, I’m going to be working at the club, running the club, running the operations,” Stewart said.

Clement spoke about the incident in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final, which saw Rangers draw 3-3 on penalties against Celtic, when Vaclav Cerny was caught by Kyle near the edge of the penalty area Foul by Special Team’s Liam Scales.

Although a free kick was awarded, Clement suggested Rangers could have awarded a penalty.

Stewart said: “I have spoken to the National Football Association and asked them to explain why a penalty was not awarded in overtime. I will wait to hear what the National Football Association has to say about this.”
