Joey Barton charged over social media posts
Retired football player Joey Barton has been charged over allegations involving social media posts.
Barton, 41, faces two charges of sending malicious communications relating to BBC presenter Jeremy Vine and former England footballer Lucy Ward.
Cheshire Police said Barton, from Haydon, Merseyside, who now lives in Widnes, Cheshire, will appear at Magistrates’ Court at a date yet to be confirmed.
The midfielder played for clubs such as Manchester City, Newcastle United, Queens Park Rangers, Burnley and Rangers before entering management after retiring.
