GM, ChargePoint Team Up To Install Up to 500 EV Chargers

charging point (CHPT) and General Motors (General Motors) The two companies announced Wednesday that they are teaming up to install hundreds of new electric vehicle chargers.

ChargePoint and General Motors said they will manufacture and install up to 500 new electric vehicle chargers, which will be called GM Energy chargers, at multiple “strategic locations” across the U.S.

The new charging station is expected to open to the public by the end of next year.

Providing more “ultra-fast charging” for electric vehicle owners

“Continuing to provide customers with better charging options helps remove barriers to electric vehicle adoption and improve the ownership experience,” said Wade Sheffer, vice president of GM Energy, in a press release. “With ultra-fast charging, Omni Port technology and outstanding Customer experience, this collaboration should be another reason why EV drivers and EV curious people should be excited.”

The companies say the charger will feature two different charging ports, including North American Charge Standard (NACS) Charger developed by electric car manufacturer Tesla (Tesla). This means these chargers can be used by a variety of electric vehicles without the need for certain adapters. Companies have expressed Tesla slow to deliver after series of products Automobile manufacturer cooperation agreement last year.

Shares of ChargePoint and General Motors rose early Wednesday following the news, before giving up gains. ChargePoint shares closed flat at $1.16 on Wednesday, while General Motors shares fell 1% to $49.99.
