One of the most important parts of replacing your headband is making it more comfortable for long hours of playing. While the Quest 3 is significantly lighter than the Quest 2, it still has a lot of weight on the front. Battery straps add weight to the back of your head (the straps provide better support), reducing pressure on the front. It’s a more comfortable experience.
The Yoges strap has a 10,000mAh battery that keeps your Quest 3 charged while you play. The Meta Quest 3 comes with a 4879mAh battery, so the addition should allow for two more full charges, adding about five to six hours of potential playtime. My mileage varied depending on what I was doing, but on my current test setup I did get about five hours out of it.

Meta’s headphone strap system for the Quest 3 and 3S is my preferred alternative to built-in elastic, and it maintains a secure, adjustable fit for extended use. There are third-party alternatives, but the Meta works great and fits easily into the Meta’s charging base and carrying case. More expensive versions also add a battery pack.
One concern I have over time is breakage. Over time, the Quest 2’s Elite strap system will eventually wear and break.

Unlike the official Meta Quest 3 charger, this one from Best Buy brand Insignia can charge your controller and headset. The stand comes with two rechargeable batteries and controller cover and feels just as good as the original board, but makes charging easier with the addition of pogo pins. The headset section charges using the Quest 3’s pogo pins, so all you have to do is pop the headset into the slot when you’re done with your session, and it’ll be ready the next time you play a game. Make sure to secure it in place, though, as sometimes the pins won’t connect if not installed properly.
I also really like the look of the Insignia base compared to the official Insignia base. It’s sleek, low-profile and won’t get stuck. This is a simple but effective product. I like it.

I do a lot of VR workouts, and while the Quest 3 and 3S come with wrist straps to prevent the controllers from falling off, the Meta’s active straps keep the controllers close to my hands. These straps attach to the controller as snap-on battery cover replacements, and the elastic Velcro straps feel comfortable and allow full access to the controller. I prefer these to the Meta’s built-in wristband, which feels like a must-have for active experiences like Supernatural.

One of my favorite games on Quest is Pistol Whip. It’s a rhythm game that uses music and shooting to make you feel like John Wick as you wipe out countless enemies. I make it part of my weekly fitness routine because it’s such a good workout. The addition of Cybvr increases the weight of the controller, thus increasing my workout volume. Because they’re designed to feel like a weapon in your hand, they’re heavy enough to keep my arm muscles working hard while gaming. Not only does constant repetition help me burn calories, it also helps me tone my arms—it’s a win-win.
Cybvr also makes these gun games feel more realistic. One of my favorite AR games is Home Invasion — a game where zombies attack you in AR — and the feel of the gun handle makes the whole experience even more visceral. The only downside is the time it takes to remove the controller. You must completely disassemble the handle to get it out. I know this design reduces the risk of controller damage, but it can be a pain when swapping games.

While there are tons of fun accessories that can enhance your VR gaming experience, only a few are “must-haves.” The first accessory I buy is always a new headband. The ones that came with Meta Quest and Meta Quest 3 were uncomfortable for any serious gaming time.
After that, you’ll need a charging base and, if possible, a rechargeable battery for the controller. There’s nothing worse than getting ready to use your headphones only to find out your controller’s battery is dead. A good base will make your life easier, your gaming sessions longer, and your room cleaner.
Yes, most accessories you use in Meta Quest 3 will not affect your ability to wear glasses. The Quest 3 has an adjustable panel that lets you change its depth to give you more room for your glasses, so you no longer need an extra panel extender. If you use the panel pad accessory, you can reduce the gap in the extender so that your face is still the correct distance from the lens.
3D printing allows you to greatly customize your equipment. There are several places to buy 3D parts, such as Etsy, if you have 3D printer, You can print small but useful things like cable clips, all the way to conversion systems that let you use HTC’s impressive headbands.
Removing the original headband felt dangerous. It’s secure and requires more force than it feels like to use. This is the best way to remove it without breaking anything.
- Hold the Meta Quest 3 console with your non-dominant hand.
- Find the edge where the strap meets the head unit.
- Place your thumb on the thin pull tab above the head unit and gently but firmly pry away from the unit until it releases.
To install the new strap, you’ll want to start at the other end of the headset (closest to the front). Clamp the front of the strap and slowly push it along the perimeter until the entire strap is connected. Installing the new straps also requires a lot of effort, but once the first part is installed it’s much easier.
