Police say mass shooting in Towson leaves 1 dead, 9 injured

BALTIMORE — One person was killed and nine others were injured Tuesday night in a shooting and fire in the Baltimore suburb of Towson, authorities said.

Law enforcement responded to the 8500 block of Loch Raven Boulevard around 7:15 p.m., Baltimore County Police Chief Robert McCullough said at a news conference.

“This appears to be a mass shooting,” McCullough told reporters. “We have multiple people shot. At this time, we are determining the circumstances and conditions of this case.”

McCullough said the first arriving officers found a vehicle with its side on fire near a funeral home and then found several people with gunshot wounds in the area.

“It appears there was some type of incident that caused the vehicles to collide and catch fire,” McCollough said. “Investigators are looking into the circumstances that led to this situation.”

The name and manner of death of the deceased were not released, nor were the injuries to the nine people. McCollough did not specify how many of the nine injured were gunshot victims.

He added that investigators currently believe this was an isolated, targeted incident and there is no further threat to the community. It’s unclear if any suspects have been arrested. No possible motive was disclosed.

“We’re going to leave no stone unturned and we’re going to put every resource we have into this,” McCullough said. “We don’t typically see incidents like this in our communities in Baltimore County. As your police chief, I promise you, we’re going to put every resource into this effort.” resources to try to solve the case.”

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Baltimore County Fire Department were assisting police at the scene.

“This is a shocking incident, especially for us in Baltimore County,” said Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski. “This type of incident is unheard of here, so It is truly shocking to the conscience, however, we want our residents to know that we remain fully committed to ensuring that our fire and police departments receive all the support and resources they need from Baltimore County government to ensure they complete their investigation.”
