Vinicius Jr wins Fifa Best men’s player of year award
Real Madrid and Brazil winger Vinicius Junior has been named FIFA Men’s Player of the Year.
The 24-year-old and his club boycotted the recent Ballon d’Or after missing out on Manchester City’s Rodri, but he received the award in Doha, Qatar.
Vinicius played a key role in Real Madrid winning the Champions League and La Liga titles in the 2023-24 season, scoring 24 goals and providing 11 assists.
Earlier in the ceremony, Barcelona midfielder Aitana Bonmati was named Women’s Player of the Year For the second year in a row.
This is the first time Vinicius has won the award and caps off the season The Golden Globes Boycott in October.
The Ballon d’Or and the FIFA Best Award are two of the most prestigious awards in football.
This is the first FIFA award for Vinicius, the previous two were won by Lionel Messi and Robert Lewandowski two previous awards.
