Luke Littler wins BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year 2024 award
Darts player Luke Littler has been named BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year for 2024.
Littler, 17, had a breakthrough year when he finished runner-up at the 2024 PDC World Darts Championship in January.
The Briton has won 10 senior titles on the Professional Darts Corporation circuit this year and is the first darts player to win the award.
He was presented with the trophy in 2005 by former sprinter Harry Aikines-Aryeetey and former rugby union player Jodie Ounsley, both on BBC TV Star of the show Gladiator.
Skateboarder Sky Brown, 16, and para swimmer William Ellard, 18, are also shortlisted for the award.
In early 2024, at just 16 years and 347 days old, Littler reached the World Championship finals and became a household name.
The achievement was just the start of a trophy-filled year that saw Littler win titles including the Darts Premier League, Grand Slam and World Series of Darts final.
Littler rose from No. 164 to No. 4 in the world rankings and won more than £1 million in prize money in 2024.
The Young Sports Personality of the Year judging panel includes Paralympic gold medalist Sammi Kinghorn, Olympic silver medalist BMX freestyler Keiran Reilly, TV presenter Qasa Alom and Radio 1 DJ Jeremiah Asiamah, as well as representatives from Youth Sports Trust Blue Peter and the UK Broadcaster Sports Channel.
