Ryder Cup 2025: USA to pay players £400,000 for Bethpage matches
Players on next year’s U.S. Ryder Cup team will be paid to compete after the PGA of America agreed to a package.
This will be the first time in the event’s 97-year history that both sides will pay to compete.
The 12 players will each receive $500,000 (£400,000), with $300,000 (£240,000) donated to a charity or charities chosen by each member of the squad.
The PGA of America, which organizes the tournament, approved the package, although it said “no players have requested compensation.”
Six players will advance automatically through the U.S. Ryder Cup standings, and captain Keegan Bradley will select six wild cards.
“Players and captains past and present are responsible for making the Ryder Cup the most special event in golf and one of the most popular events in international sport,” the PGA of America said in a statement.
