Bruno Jean-Richard Itoua, Minister of Hydrocarbons of the Republic of Congo, will chair the first Congo Energy and Investment Forum (CEIF) scheduled to be held in Brazzaville on March 25-26, 2025. As Republic of Congo’s first LNG exports begin and oil production resumes, Minister Itua’s leadership has been instrumental in driving ambitious reforms and initiatives aimed at maximizing the country’s energy potential. These efforts have made the Republic of Congo the fourth largest oil producer in sub-Saharan Africa, with output expected to reach 280,000 barrels per day by the end of 2024.

These include the Marine XII LNG development project under the direction of Minister Itoua, which exported its first cargo from the Tango FLNG facility in early 2024 and is expected to reach 3 million tonnes of LNG per year by 2025, with the addition of a second Facilities Unit, underlining the ministry’s commitment to advancing the national gas monetization strategy.

Major players such as Trident Energy and Perenco have expanded their operations in the Republic of Congo, acquiring major assets and driving upstream development in line with the Hydrocarbons Ministry’s efforts to create an investment-friendly environment. Trident Energy acquired Chevron’s interests in the Moho-Bilondo and Nkossa fields, while Perenco purchased multiple oil licenses from Eni for $300 million, underscoring Minister Itua’s success in attracting a new wave of independent explorers the success of the policy. To further this progress, the Ministry is advancing its Gas Master Plan to maximize gas utilization, enhance commercial viability, and support the establishment of a national gas company and the adoption of new gas regulations.

The forum is expected to bring together policymakers, international oil companies, independent explorers and financiers to discuss strategies to maximize the country’s hydrocarbon potential, expand LNG production and advance green energy solutions.
