Arab Coordination Group (ACG) to showcase unified climate action at United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) Conference of the Parties (COP16) in Riyadh
The Arab Coordination Group (ACG), a strategic alliance of ten national and regional development agencies, will actively participate in the 16th Conference of the Parties (COP16) of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) hosted in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. At COP16, ACG Pavilion Al-ULA B, No. B14, ACG will highlight the group’s impact and the work of individual members in advancing innovative solutions and meaningful collaborations to tackle land degradation, urgent challenges such as desertification and drought, while promoting sustainable land management.
ACG’s joint presence demonstrates the Group’s financial commitment and innovative solutions to be presented at COP16, reinforcing its commitment to combating desertification and supporting communities affected by climate change. Reaffirming its strong support for Saudi Arabia’s leadership through transformative initiatives such as the Saudi and Middle East Green Initiative and the G20 Global Land Initiative, the Group will highlight how regional efforts can advance land restoration, biodiversity protection and climate adaptation, restore livelihoods and more Global change and global ecosystems.
At COP 16, the ACG will contribute to high-level sessions, including the opening session and the Ministerial Plenary, where important commitments to strengthen global land restoration and resilience efforts are expected to be announced. ACG’s participation will be centered around a joint pavilion in the blue zone (numbered), which will serve as a hub for collaboration and knowledge exchange. Member institutions will propose pioneering projects, strategies and financing solutions that address desertification and promote sustainable land use. More than 10 peripheral activities organized by ACG institutions will further attract the participation of global stakeholders.
In 2022, at COP27, ACG announced a landmark $24 billion commitment to combat climate change. At COP28 the following year, ACG outlined its strategy to deploy $10 billion in financing to accelerate the global transition to clean and renewable energy by 2023. The group has also jointly committed up to $50 billion to help build resilient infrastructure and inclusive infrastructure. societies on the African continent. In 2023, the Group will provide a total of approximately US$17 billion to fund nearly 500 businesses in approximately 90 countries and various institutions and organizations to address global challenges such as climate change and food security, and support international trade.
