5,400 Tanzanian Farmers To Receive Agroforestry Training Through Trees For The Future, Tanzania Government Partnership

Tanzania Ministry of Agriculture Training Institute and Future Tree hosted project launch meeting

International agroforestry non-profit organization Trees for the Future (TREES) and the Tanzania Ministry of Agriculture Training Institute (MATI) are partnering to provide 5,400 farmers in Mwanza, Singida and Tabora with training that will transform their land and lives.

TREES and MATI officially announced the five-year project on December 12 in the lobby of the Singida Regency Hotel and signed a memorandum of understanding and training courses. Thursday’s training was attended by 24 district and district agriculture officials.

“We first worked with MATI on a pilot project in 2019. We are extremely grateful for the relationship and proud of what we have achieved together so far for Tanzanian farmers. We look forward to reaching even more people through the transformative power of the forest garden approach, ” said Dr. Fredrick Mngube, Acting Country Director of Trees for the Future Tanzania.

Using proven agroforestry and climate-smart practices, farmers are planting thousands of trees and dozens of species in forest gardens to restore degraded farmland and improve their access to food and income. Usually, farmers are trained by local TREES staff. Through their partnership, Department of Agriculture extension agencies will now be able to train farmers in their jurisdictions.
