Liverpool FC staff party in cathedral halted over drug fears
A Christmas party for Liverpool Football Club employees at the city’s Anglican Cathedral was halted early after suspected drug paraphernalia was found.
The football club confirmed an “incident” took place on Thursday night, adding: “We do not condone or condone the use of illegal substances at any of our venues or events.”
None of the club’s players or first-team manager Arne Slaughter attended the event for non-football staff.
Staff at the cathedral ended the gathering and said in a statement that an “incident” had occurred that was “not consistent with our values.”
Details emerged in newspaper reports that one of the attendees suffered a “medical incident” and the search was carried out.
Liverpool Football Club said the staff member was “recovering well” after treatment in hospital and the medical incident was “not related” to other issues.

A statement from Liverpool Football Club said: “We do not condone or tolerate the use of illegal substances at any of our venues or events.
“We would like to thank the venue’s events team for their swift action and professional response to the unrelated medical emergency.
“‘This staff member is recovering well.'”
Liverpool Cathedral, the UK’s largest and the fifth largest in the world, said it held such events to keep the church open and free to the public.
A representative added: “At an event last week, an incident occurred that was inconsistent with our core values.
“The team on duty followed correct procedures which brought the event to an early conclusion.
“We would like to thank our staff and Liverpool Football Club for their swift action and partnership and will continue to review our procedures and mitigation measures in response to future incidents.”
