Scottish Open: Mark Allen hits three century breaks to secure semi-final spot
Mark Allen produced another impressive break performance in a 5-2 quarter-final win over Noppon Saengkham, hitting three hundreds and remains on target On track for a second Scottish Open title.
The game in Edinburgh was a high-scoring affair as Allen completed his second treble and achieved the feat at the same time. Beat Ryan Day in Round of 32 Wednesday.
His Thai opponent shot 87 to win the first set on Friday night, but the world number five equalized in the next and then won three in a row.
Allen scored 87, 120 and 127 points to lead 4-1, but Noppon responded with 136 points to narrow the gap to 2 points.
The Northern Irishman scored 105 in the seventh frame to cross the finish line and remain in contention for a chance to repeat his 2018 success in the championship.
Allen will face Lei Peifan of China in the semi-finals on Saturday, beating last week’s penalty shootout winner Tom Ford 5-4.
The other semi-final match will be competed by two other Chinese players, Wu Yize and Xiao Guodong.
Wu, ranked 27th in the world, beat 16th-ranked Chris Wakeling 5-4 in the quarterfinals, while Shaw beat 2023 world champion Luca Bressel 5-1.
