Russell Martin: Southampton’s Premier League points tally is embarrassing
Southampton manager Russell Martin says the club’s Premier League points tally so far this season is “incredibly hurtful and embarrassing”.
His side are bottom of the Premier League table with five points.
Since being promoted back to the top flight, Martin’s team has recorded 1 win, 2 draws and 12 losses in 15 league games.
Their goal difference is -20, scoring 11 goals and conceding 31 goals.
“We didn’t deserve just five points, it was incredibly hurtful and embarrassing – we deserved more,” Martin said.
“But we made too many mistakes and too many moments that we didn’t handle well.
“We’ve had our share of disappointments and setbacks in games, but we have to continue to try to grow – grow as a team, grow individually, prepare players for those tough moments and find ways for them to cope emotionally. “
