Palace investigates after Household staff incident

Buckingham Palace said it would take “appropriate action” following reports that a palace staff member had been arrested after hosting a Christmas party in a London pub.

Police were said to have been called to a bar in Victoria near the palace at 21:21 GMT on Tuesday after reports that a patron had broken a glass and attempted to assault a staff member.

A 24-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of common assault, criminal damage and drunken public order.

A palace spokesman said it was aware of an incident involving a staff member outside the workplace and “a full investigation into the facts will be carried out”.

The incident took place at a pre-arranged event at an All Bar One branch, which was attended by up to 50 staff. sun report.

The woman was reportedly detained and issued a penalty notice for disorderly conduct and was held until the next day.

The spokesman confirmed staff attended a reception at the palace that evening but stressed the incident took place at an informal gathering elsewhere.

In a statement to The Sun, the Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called to a pub in Victoria Street, SW1, at 21:21 on Tuesday 10 December following reports that a patron had broken a glass. cup and attempted to assault a staff member.

“Police arrested a 24-year-old woman on suspicion of common assault, criminal damage and being drunk and disorderly.

“She was detained and released the following evening and issued a disorderly conduct penalty notice.”

A Buckingham Palace spokesman told the BBC: “We are aware of an incident outside the workplace involving a number of Home Office staff who had attended an evening reception at Buckingham Palace.

“While this was an informal social gathering and not an official Palace Christmas party, we will fully investigate the facts and impose strict disciplinary sanctions on individual staff members and take appropriate action.”

The BBC has contacted the Metropolitan Police for comment.
