NFL: Los Angeles Rams beat San Francisco 49ers 12-6 in rain-hit game to boost play-off hopes

The Los Angeles Rams boosted their hopes of advancing to the NFL play-offs with a 12-6 victory over the San Francisco 49ers in a rain-affected game.

With the game tied at 6-6 in the fourth quarter, rookie kicker Joshua Karty’s 27-yard field goal gave the Rams a three-point lead.

Then, with 18 seconds left, Carty made his fourth and final shot.

“This team can win a lot of ways,” Rams coach Sean McVay said.

Neither team scored a touchdown Thursday in a soggy Levi’s Stadium in California, the first game of the 2024 season without a touchdown.

“I thought the defense played great every time,” McVay added.

San Francisco opened the scoring in the first quarter on Jake Moody’s 53-yard field goal, and he added another early in the third quarter to give the 49ers a 6-3 lead.

But midway through the third quarter, Niners wide receiver Deebo Samuel, who recently complained on social media that he didn’t get enough of the ball, ended up losing the ball on a crucial play, prompting boos from the home fans. Voice.

It was the eighth loss in 14 games for last season’s beaten Super Bowl finalist, a further blow to their already slim playoff chances.

Despite San Francisco’s struggles, the Rams hold an 8-6 record so far.
