Scottish Open: Allen defeats Day to advance to last 16 in Edinburgh

Mark Allen hit three centuries as he came from a frame down to beat Ryan Day 4-2 in the final stages of the Scottish Open round of 32 in Edinburgh on Wednesday.

Allen scored 104 points in the first game, but Welshman Day responded with a break of 122 points in the next game to lead 2-1.

The high quality of the match continued in the fourth game when Allen restored the tie with a break of 127, with the Northern Irish player winning the match with authority on 78 and 103 points.

The world number five will continue his challenge for a second Scottish Open title when he takes on Britain’s Jack Lisovsky in the round of 16, who beat Scarlett 4-0.

Allen defeated Lisovski 6-3 in the quarter-finals of the recent British Championships in York.

Earlier on Wednesday, world champion Kyren Wilson lost 4-2 to Stephen Maguire, Ding Junhui beat Jackson Page 4-2 and Luca Bressel defeated Zhou Yuelong 4-1.

Ronnie O’Sullivan, Judd Trump and Mark Williams have all withdrawn from the game.
