Republic of Ireland: Manager Eileen Gleeson to leave role after Euro 2025 qualification failure
The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) will not offer Republic of Ireland head coach Erin Gleeson a new contract.
The former Piedmont United manager was initially appointed on an interim basis in August 2023 to replace Vera Pauw and became permanent in December last year, but this month her side failed to qualify for Euro 2025 Cup qualification.
Despite a challenging Nations League draw, the Republic of Ireland qualified for the qualifying play-offs but were beaten over two legs by Wales this month.

Following a meeting and review by the FAI Board of Directors, it was decided that no new deals would be offered.
Marc Canham, chief football officer at the FAI, said: “It is important to recognize the leadership that Erin has brought to our women’s national team, helping us top the UEFA Nations League B division, Leading them into Euro 2025 qualifying and continuing to build the women’s national team is a legacy that has been developed in recent years.”
The FAI said it would begin the search for Gleeson’s successor “immediately”.
