Gemini 2.0 and Project Astra Make Google’s AI Your Know-It-All Assistant
Google is entering the age of AI agents, launching Gemini 2.0, the company’s next-generation AI chatbot, as well as a limited version of Project Astra, a computer vision-assisted AI agent that can see and analyze the world around you on Wednesday. stated in a press release.
astra project Presented at Google I/O earlier this yearis a major leap forward in artificial intelligence research by Google’s DeepMind team in London. As shown in a video from earlier this year, Project Astra works through your phone’s camera or camera-equipped glasses to see and analyze the world around you and give you answers to anything it identifies. This includes being able to ask your glasses where the bus is going, what the code is for your apartment, or where you put your book.
Google says the latest advancements for Astra include better multi-language conversations and interchangeability, deeper integration with Google Lens and Maps, up to 10 minutes of memory, and better latency for faster responses.
Project Astra will first land on its trusted tester program. No timetable was given for when it would be available.
Project Astra’s visual features certainly raise privacy concerns. Google said it was working with its Responsibility and Safety Council, the company’s interview review group, to flag potential risks. This includes flags to prevent users from inadvertently sharing sensitive information with agents and controls so that users can delete their sessions.

At the same time, OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, has also released Newer, more advanced models and Raise billions of dollars in investment. It’s a race between Google and Microsoft-backed OpenAI to see which tech giant will lead in artificial intelligence. Some analysts believe that the development of artificial intelligence will winner-take-all competitionleading the market with the best technology. Other announcements from Gemini and Project Mariner
While Project Astra certainly sparked imaginations of this all-powerful AI technology, Gemini also got a major update. According to Google, Gemini 2.0 will have advanced reasoning capabilities to provide better responses from general queries to coding questions and even math. Gemini 2.0 also runs faster than previous versions, the company said. An early experimental version of Gemini 2.0 will be available to developers before being released to the wider public.
Luckily, starting Wednesday, fans can play the chat version of Gemini 2.0 Flash through the Gemini app on their phones. Gemini 2.0 Flash is a lightweight version of Gemini 2.0. Gemini 2.0 will be expanded to more Google products early next year, Google said.

Google is still working on Mariner and admits the technology isn’t always accurate and is slow to complete tasks.
Google engineers have also been working on ways to let AI help you play games. Google is working with Supercell, the creator of Clash of Clans and Brawl Stars, to develop an artificial intelligence that can answer questions about the game you’re playing, such as what you need to do to defeat a boss. Google didn’t reveal how its artificial intelligence would provide this information. Is it based on information provided by the game developer? Or does Google get its information from game guides posted online?
Google also announced Jules, another AI agent the company is working on to help with coding. Jules integrates into GitHub workflows.
