Cristian Romero: Tottenham defender ‘apologised’ after comments on club’s owners

Tottenham Hotspur manager Anj Postkoglu says defender Christian Romero has apologized for criticizing the club’s boss.

Romero will join Tottenham permanently in 2022 after a season-long loan from Atalanta. Say “something went wronghopefully they (the board) realize that,” when discussing other clubs’ spending compared to Tottenham’s.

Postkoglu said: “He realized that a lot of what he said was good, but some of it was not the right way to handle it. Just like I would not criticize players publicly.”

“I’ve spoken to Christian about it and he apologized for it. It wasn’t the right thing to do. It shows he cares. There are ways to do it, but not like this.”

Romero and centre-back partner Mickey van de Veen both returned to the Tottenham squad after injury to help the side beat Chelsea.

But the 26-year-old was substituted after another setback in the 15th minute, while Dutchman Van de Veen was also substituted 11 minutes after the end of the game.

“What we know about the prognosis is still unclear,” he added. “Both men have injuries that will keep them out of action again.

“It’s disappointing for us because obviously our numbers are very low. We’ve been dealing with this issue for a while.”
