Sustainable Income Model for Women in Guinea

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA)

The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TıKA) has set up a workshop to create a sustainable source of income for Guinean women through the processing of ginger and chili peppers, two of the most widely consumed food products in the country.

In order to promote the economic independence of Guinean women, TıKA and the AREMA Women’s Union have collaborated to set up a workshop to process ginger and chili, two of the most widely consumed foods in the country.

Ginger and chillies are processed and converted into powder form in workshops that provide a sustainable income model for women engaged in traditional agricultural practices.

This process increases the value of the products, which are often initially sold on the market for 1-2 euros per kilogram, effectively doubling the women’s income.

The produced ginger powder, ginger tea, and chili powder are carefully packaged and put on the market after being inspected by food safety supervisors. This process not only improves women’s economic income, but also contributes to regional development.

In addition to supporting the local economy in Guinea, the workshops empower women to play a more active role in society and the economy.
