Rob Hawkins: England wing wins wheelchair Golden Boot honour

Hawkins took up the sport in 2014 after being bedridden with chronic fatigue syndrome for 18 months, and made his England debut in 2019.

England head coach Tom Coed said: “Rob is one of the most dedicated players I have ever worked with. It is so inspiring that he has achieved what he has achieved when he was once bedridden.”

“On the pitch, his fearsome pace made him a prolific finisher and try-saver, but he also loved protecting his teammates and never backed down from a challenge – that’s what I love as a player. What players love most about him.

“He is a great ambassador for our team, the community and the sport.”

Hawkins is the third English player to win the Golden Boot after Jack Brown won the inaugural Golden Boot in 2019, with Seb Bechara following in 2022. Boot Award.

France’s Jeremy Bourson, who plays with Hawkins in Halifax, was last year’s winner.
