Kylian Mbappe: Real Madrid forward says he remains committed to France
Kylian Mbappe has pledged to remain committed to France despite being left out of the final two teams.
The 25-year-old Real Madrid striker made 86 appearances for France, helping them win the 2018 World Cup and scoring a hat-trick in the 2022 final loss to Argentina.
He is also their captain, but Mbappe was left out of the France squad in October as a precautionary measure after returning from injury and was left out again for no apparent reason the next month.
“The French team has always been at the highest level in football, it is the national team. I have always said that nothing is more important than this. My love for the French team has not changed,” Mbappe told Canal+.
“You serve your country, that’s all.”
Mbappe scored 48 goals for the national team, but he only scored 1 official game goal in 2024. He endured a difficult time at Euro 2024 as he played much of the tournament with a broken nose.
France coach Didier Deschamps said Kylian Mbappe’s decision to miss the Nations League in November was a “one-off”.
Mbappe said: “I can’t talk about November because it’s the coach’s decision and I will support what he says.
“I totally respect his decision because he’s the boss. I want to go, but I can’t say why.”
Mbappe is yet to find his best form after joining Real Madrid on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.
However, he still scored 11 goals in 21 games for the Spanish giants.
