Egypt: President El-Sisi Meets the Speaker of Norway’s Parliament
Today, President Sisi met with the Speaker of the Norwegian Parliament, Masoud Galakhani, and members of the Parliament’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee. The meeting was part of the president’s official visit to Norway, the second leg of his European tour.
Presidential Spokesperson Ambassador Mohamed Al-Shennawi said President Sisi emphasized the key role of parliamentary cooperation in strengthening dialogue between peoples. The president stressed the importance of strengthening parliamentary relations between Egypt and Norway to serve the common interests of both countries.
During the meeting, President Sisi confirmed the need to further promote parliamentary cooperation between the two countries through consultation, coordination, exchange of visits, and sharing of professional knowledge. The President stressed the importance of building closer bilateral relations in all areas, especially trade and investment. The talks focused on opportunities to promote Norwegian investment in priority areas for both countries, mainly renewables and green energy. The meeting also discussed coordination between the two countries on issues such as climate change, counter-terrorism and combating illegal immigration.
The discussion also touched on Egypt’s efforts to restore stability in the Middle East. Both sides affirmed the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire, exchange of hostages and detainees, and provision of adequate access for urgently needed humanitarian assistance and relief in the Gaza Strip. They also reiterated the importance of efforts to prevent the situation in the Middle East from deteriorating and escalating conflicts. The Norwegian parliamentarian praised Egypt’s important and wise role in the Middle East, confirming Norway’s position in supporting Egypt’s efforts in this regard.
The meeting also discussed the situation in Africa and efforts to enhance security and stability on the continent, particularly in Sudan and Somalia. It also examines opportunities for trilateral cooperation in Africa and the expertise of Egyptian companies in this field.
