Lindsey Vonn makes competitive return at FIS Fall Festival in Colorado
Three-time Olympic skiing medalist Lindsey Vonn returned to competition Saturday after nearly six years in Colorado’s Copper Mountain.
Vonn, 40, finished 24th out of 45 skiers in the first of two downhill races at the FIS Fall Festival and 27th in the second.
The American retired in February 2019 but announced her return to competition last month after successful knee surgery in April.
Vaughn wrote on social media: “Today was a good start. I started again with my teammates and I feel happy.”
“While I’m sure people will speculate and say I wasn’t at my best because of the result, I disagree. It was training for me.
“I’m still testing equipment and getting back into my groove. This is just the beginning, and the way I ski is more important than the times at the moment.”
Vonn was 1 minute 44 seconds slower than Austria’s Mirjam Puchner in the first race and trailed Puchner’s compatriot Cornelia Huter in the second race. Huetter) 1 minute 53 seconds.
She made her World Cup debut in 2000 at the age of 16 and went on to win 20 World Cup titles, including four Crystal Balls, as well as eight World Championship medals, including 137 World Cup podiums and 82 World Cup victories.
Vonn won Olympic gold in the downhill and a bronze in the super-G at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. In 2018, she won another downhill bronze medal at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics.
