Brentford: ‘Unplayable’ Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa keep Bees firing

But Frank’s caution is understandable. He pointed to last season, when Brentford were comfortably 11th in the table with 19 points after 15 games. But they lost 11 consecutive games in the next 14 games, putting them in danger of being relegated.

In that terrible game, Frank recalibrated the team’s offense and achieved obvious results.

“We started off well last season, 11 or 12 games in, and then injuries hit us hard,” Frank said. “So we try to add layers, control more, make more breakthroughs, play more forwards. We’ve proven we have a lot of good offensive players.”

The result is Brentford’s fifth consecutive home league win in the Championship for the first time since February 2021, and their first such feat in the top flight since 1936.

Of course, there are still some weaknesses that need to be addressed, especially on defense. Four minutes later, goals from Mbeumo and Visa helped Newcastle equalize the score.

Brentford have scored and conceded at least two goals in the first half of three different Premier League games this season – only Newcastle in 1994-95 have done so more often.

Frank also admits his side aren’t that formidable outside of west London. They have taken just one point from seven away games, a goalless draw with Everton.

“I want to continue that form at home – some wins away from home would also be welcome,” he told Lineker.

But for now, Brentford fans will continue to dream of a joint push for a first-ever European season. If Mbemo and Visa remain unavailable against Newcastle then this could be more than just a dream.
