Former Scotland rugby union captain Stuart Hogg has been sentenced to a five-year non-harassment order and fined £600 for breaching bail conditions.

The former Scotland international’s sentencing for abusing his estranged wife over a five-year period has been postponed until January.

The 32-year-old He previously admitted shouting, swearing and behaving abusively towards his wife Gillian.

At Jedburgh Sheriff Court, Sheriff Peter Paterson made a five-year non-molestation order banning Hogg from having any contact with his wife but deferred sentence on the domestic abuse charge until January 9.

Hogg earlier admitted breaching bail conditions by repeatedly contacting his wife in June.

Last month, Hogg, who plays for Montpellier, admitted a charge relating to repeated acts of abuse towards his now-estranged wife.

Over a five-year period to August this year, he engaged in a series of behaviors that caused her fear or alarm.

The court heard that Hogg regularly shouted and swore at his wife when they lived in Hawick and again in Exeter when she was playing for Exeter Chiefs.

Hogg made 100 appearances for his country

The allegation also involves Hogg monitoring his wife’s whereabouts through the Find My Phone app after they broke up in 2023, sometimes sending her hundreds of text messages over the course of several hours.

He will be sentenced for this in the new year.

The former Glasgow Warriors defender retired from rugby union ahead of last year’s World Cup, having racked up a century of senior international service and featured in three British and Irish Lions tours.

He remains one of Scotland’s all-time leading scorers and was awarded an MBE in the 2024 New Year Honors list for services to rugby league.

Hogg returned in the summer and signed a two-year contract with Montpellier.
