Rangers: Lowering age & wages behind low fees, says Philippe Clement

“Some guys are older, some guys might be making a lot of money that other teams aren’t willing to pay.

“If you sign a player who is 28, 29, 30 years old and give him a two-year, three-year, four-year or five-year contract – and some players still have contracts – you know you No added value.”

Clement has sought to give academy players more time to train with the first-team squad and believes being able to get young players into the Championship will benefit Scotland’s game, citing Belgium, Croatia, the Netherlands and Scandinavia Country examples.

“They’re getting results from it,” Clement said.

“I don’t know how this can be stopped and if it’s better for Scottish football then everyone needs to get behind it.

“I heard (Scotland manager Steve Clark) speak. There has to be a huge shift in the situation with Scotland’s young players.”
