Plymouth Argyle v Oxford United postponed amid Storm Darragh warnings

Plymouth said a safety advisory group had recommended they postpone the game at their home park.

A club statement said the decision had been taken in advance “to avoid lengthy trips to Plymouth in adverse weather conditions and in the best interests of fan safety as we will never allow the safety of fans, staff or players Security is at risk.”

The statement continued: “There is a real danger from flying debris and potential falling trees, which could endanger lives and potentially damage buildings and homes.”

“Roads, bridges and rail lines may also be closed, and the stadium and surrounding areas may be affected by power outages.”

Argyle said tickets already purchased for the game will be valid for the rescheduled game.

This game has a crucial impact on the bottom half of the division – Argyle are one and two points above the relegation zone, while Oxford are one and four points above the relegation zone.

Cardiff had originally planned to carry out inspections on Saturday but said the decision to cancel the match was taken based on “new advice from the Met Office and advice from Cardiff Council and South Wales Police”.

Scheduled horse races at Sandown Park, Aintree, Chepstow and Wetherby will also undergo precautionary inspections on Saturday morning.
