Liverpool players are used to pressure – Arne Slot
Arne Slott says his Liverpool players are used to the pressure of having to win as they seek to maintain their lead at the top of the Premier League table.
Slott’s side are seven points clear heading into Saturday’s derby against Everton (12:30 GMT).
Liverpool’s win over Manchester City last Sunday did extend their lead to nine points, but that lead was reduced as they drew 3-3 with Newcastle on Wednesday, while nearest challengers Chelsea and Arsenal both won.
Meanwhile, Premier League champions Manchester City are nine points behind the Reds after beating Nottingham Forest on Wednesday.
“I think if you play for Liverpool you feel pressure every day because you play at a big club,” head coach Slaughter said.
“Everyone expects two things from us – that we win and that we play good football.
“It’s a good thing too – these players are used to what’s expected of them – so if we’re top, second, third or fourth in the league, people will expect us to win in some way. That’s The pressure is always there.
“If you play or work at this level you love the pressure for the simple reason that players are able to do what is expected of them. If you have to stay above the relegation zone, for example, it is much more difficult.
“We are capable of doing what we are doing – winning games and playing good football. If you are at a club like Liverpool there is always pressure – just like at Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea.”
