Noni Madueke ‘must work more’, says Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca
Maduek, Joao Felix, Cole Palmer and Nkunku were Chelsea’s attacking quartet against Southampton – with Maresca making seven changes to the starting XI that beat Villa.
Pedro Neto, Nicolas Jackson and Jadon Sancho were all on the bench, underscoring the depth of Maresca’s squad.
The head coach said: “The players at the back are ready. We have four wingers and they are all very good.
“Pedro and Noni were on the right, Jayden and Misha (Mihailo Mudric) were on the left, and when one of them fell for some reason, the one behind was ready .
“Noni was not allowed to drop because Pedro was there and performed well. If Pedro dropped, then Noni was there.
“That’s what they have to understand if we want to be there or close to something important.”
Chelsea’s victory moves them into second place, seven points behind leaders Liverpool, ahead of their trip to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
