Newcastle news: Boss Eddie Howe disagrees with current PSR rule application
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe says the way football’s spending rules currently work is “not right”.
The Magpies were forced to sell players in the summer to balance their books under profit and sustainability rules (PSR).
Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh both left Tyneside for fees in excess of £30m, nottingham forest and brightonrespectively.
Howe talks about his ex crystal palace Chairman Simon Jordan’s Up Front podcast admitted: “I felt very uncomfortable when we were forced to sell two really talented young players in Elliot Anderson and Jankuba Minter in the summer , it was actually for financial reasons and it was against our will.
“One of them is an academy product that we’ve invested in since he joined the club as a youngster. You just think, ‘Why are we doing this? It doesn’t feel right’.
“I understand the rules to an extent. I understand the concept, but I don’t think the fundamental way it works right now is right.”
last season, Forest was deducted four points For breach of PSR during the 2022-23 election campaign.
Everton originally had a Deduction points from 10 points reduced to 6 pointswas previously Stopped at two more points Second violation.
