Learn When the Next Steam Sale Is and How to Save Money While Growing Your Gaming Backlog
steam It is one of the most popular PC game platforms. According to statistics, by 2023, total game sales will exceed 400 million copies. politician. Digital computer game services have massive game catalogs Over 76,000 titles. I first discovered Steam in college – before that, I’d never owned a computer, so the lure of PC gaming was irresistible. What started as just a dozen games (such as Team Fortress 2 and Half-Life) has grown to a collection of more than 220 games, largely thanks to Steam sales. (Please don’t ask me how many projects in my library I’ve actually played with.)
Whether you want to save some money on one of the latest big-name AAA games, want to add more indie games to your digital bookshelf or need to fill your library of games steam deck Hard drive, here’s everything you need to know about the Steam sales, including the best deals from the Fall Sale and how to save money.
When is the next Steam sale?
Steam has four main seasonal sales. The next major Steam sale – the Steam Winter Sale – will run from December 19, 2024 to January 2, 2025. There are also smaller sales called Fests. Typically, the Steam Winter and Summer Sales last about two weeks, while the Spring and Fall Sales last a week (or so).
- Steam Fall Sale (November 27-December 4, 2024)
- Steam Winter Sale (December 19, 2024 – January 2, 2025)
- Steam Spring Sale (March 14-21, 2024)
- Steam Summer Sale (June 27-July 11, 2024)
How often do Steam sales occur?
Steam sales are very frequent, at least once a month. While the big seasonal sales are held by quarter—winter, fall, spring, and summer—there are dozens of smaller sales or holidays. Typically, these Steam discount days are centered around a specific theme, with price cuts on specific types of games, such as fighting games or role-playing games.
Here’s how I save money by selling on Steam (and you can too)
Use your wish list
Adding games to your Steam wishlist can simplify the process of which games to buy or skip during sales. You can sort your wish list by discount, so it’s easy to find the biggest savings.
Whenever you see a game that you like the look of but don’t want to play right away, add it to your wish list. Then, during the Steam sale, drop in and sort by discount to see which prices have dropped the most. Alternatively, you can sort your wishlist in order of the games you want most, then choose what to buy during upcoming Steam sales.
Find the biggest discounts using SteamDB
steam database is an excellent source for discovering deals. Its many filters let you sort properties, including discount percentage, rating, price, or reviews, making it a useful Steam sales tracker. You can even narrow the list based on features like platform (Windows, Linux, or MacOS) and controller support. I’ve even used SteamDB to get free games like a free copy of Tell Me Why.
I usually go into SteamDB during Steam sales and look for deep discounts on highly rated games. If you’re looking to expand your Steam collection, even outside of seasonal sales and festivals, it’s worth checking out SteamDB.
Shop old games, indie games, DLC and full catalogs
Often, newer AAA games come with significant price reductions, but since they’re usually on the higher side, the cost isn’t cheap even after the discount. However, you can find old games, indie games, or downloadable content that’s wallet-friendly. For example, I bought a copy of The Sum of All Fears for only $2, and that wasn’t even during a Steam sale.
A complete publisher catalog or franchise bundle can save you a lot of money. I’ve seen Activision Collection bundles – normally priced at $900 – as low as $355. While over $350 may not be chump change, when you get 53 games, it’s quite a bargain when broken down by game. Likewise, I saw the Call of Duty Collection Bundle selling for $443, which is a significant decrease from the usual $1,010.
You can often get DLC packs for pretty cheap during Steam sales, which provide even more in-game content for you to enjoy. On the other hand, if you don’t actually plan on playing all the Call of Duty games, these comprehensive bundles may cause you to overspend.
Check your other game libraries to make sure you are not duplicating
Despite its popularity, Steam isn’t the only source for digital game purchases. Check your other libraries GOG, epic, Electronic Arts Origins and Xbox Game Passfor example, to make sure you don’t double-dip. While you can buy Cyberpunk 2077 on Steam and GOG, you probably won’t need two copies.
Cross-store offers on other platforms
There are many Steam alternatives, including GOG, epic, origin and fanaticismyou can find great discounts in many stores. While you can and should check those individual storefronts, Is there any deal? is a comprehensive source of savings. As a result, you may notice that Skyrim is on sale on Steam, but at the same time it may be available for a lower price on Epic.
Set a budget
It can be tempting to add a bunch of games to your cart, especially when the prices are slashed by 75% or more. However, many cheap games can still add up. I usually set a budget – whether it’s money or a limit on the number of games I can play – and stick to it.
Don’t feel the need to buy anything
The best way to save money is to not spend it in the first place. I know it’s tempting to load up your shopping cart with a $5 or $10 game, which is almost as satisfying as the in-game loot grab. But only buy games you want to play now or soon after you buy them. While it’s rare for a game to be removed from Steam, if you miss out on a great deal, it’ll still be available during the next Steam sale.

This is what I recently bought on Steam
So what did I stock up on in the latest Steam sale? Mass Effect Legendary Edition – Three games for $2 each is too good a deal to pass up. I also played Middle-earth: Shadow of War. Although I purchased Shadow of Mordor in a previous Steam sale, I have yet to add its sequel to my metaphorical bookshelf. As a movie buff and a fan of movie tie-in games like Peter Jackson’s King Kong), I was happy to get both Raiders of the Lost Ark: The Hell Machine and Raiders of the Lost Ark: The Emperor’s Tomb for a combined price of $4. Even though I own it in EA Origin, I picked up a $1 copy of Alice: Madness Returns because at that price, the discount was too tempting to pass up.
How to make the most of Steam after you’ve drained your wallet during a Steam sale
There are a lot of games you may never play once your bank account is drained You can do more with Steamsuch as sharing your library with friends or family, using Remote Play Together, and adding non-Steam games. I suggest Install the Steam streaming app On your phone, tablet or streaming device to play games away from your PC. You can also play games anytime, anywhere steam deck or another handheld game console picture ASUS ROG Ally. Alternatively, you can share your Steam library with up to five family members using: steam family.
