7.0 magnitude earthquake hits off Northern California coast, tsunami warning issued
HUMBOLDT COUNTY — A large earthquake struck the Humboldt County coast Thursday morning, prompting a tsunami warning for parts of the North Coast.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the earthquake occurred at approximately 10:44 a.m. in the Pacific Ocean west of Petrolia, California. tsunami warning Sent 45 miles southwest of Eureka.

The earthquake happened first Initial registration The magnitude was 6.6, but the USGS updated it to 7.0.
Minutes later, apparent aftershocks of a 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck near Cobb, California, in Lake County, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
Several other significant aftershocks were recorded minutes after the 7.0-magnitude earthquake, all ranging in magnitude from 2.5 to 4.2.
Residents along the Northern California coast and in the Central Valley reported feeling shivers.
Bay Area Earthquake Impact
Bay Area Rapid Transit service via the Transbay Tube has been suspended due to the major earthquake.
It’s unclear when services will reopen.
San Mateo County authorities noted that a tsunami warning had been extended to their area. The tsunami is expected to arrive at 12:10pm and people are urged to avoid beaches and coastlines
Emergency operations center activated
California Governor Gavin Newsom’s office said he had been briefed on earthquake and tsunami warnings.
The governor is currently meeting with state emergency officials and the California Office of Emergency Services operations center has been activated, the governor’s office said.
