How African Universities Fare with the Rest of the World – Africa.com
Four South African universities are among the top 10 in the 2024 list published by British magazine Times Higher Education (THE), including two each from Rwanda and Ghana, and one each from Uganda and Somalia. Nigeria has 41 projects on the list, ranking first among all countries. Times Higher Education’s rankings are based on a survey of 23,000 students, as well as data from schools and Dutch academic analytics firm Elsevier, the magazine said. The 129 universities come from 22 African countries and cover less than half of sub-Saharan Africa. The revised methodology resulted in the inclusion of new entries for Namibia, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Cape Verde and Swaziland. This is only the second edition of the ranking. Indicators used to compile the rankings include citations and co-authorship of African studies, accessibility for people with disabilities, and employability.
