Juan Martin del Potro beats Novak Djokovic in farewell exhibition
Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Carlos Alcaraz and Gael Monfils feature in a video tribute to the Argentinian.
In 2009, Del Potro defeated five-time defending champion Federer to win the U.S. Open.
In 2018, he reached the final again in New York, but lost to Djokovic.
Del Potro, a popular player with a huge forehand, won two Olympic medals – bronze in 2012 and silver four years later.
He won 22 ATP singles titles in his career and was ranked as high as third in the world.
However, a wrist injury derailed his career after winning the US Open, and he subsequently suffered a serious knee injury at the 2019 Queen’s Tennis Championships.
Del Potro posted Videos on Instagram from last week, external Discuss the long-term effects of the injury on his body.
“My day-to-day life is not what I want. It’s very difficult. There are days when I don’t have more power,” he said.
“I’m not indestructible. I have good things and I have bad things, but most of the time I have to fake it and put on a good face, but a lot of the time I feel bad.
“From that moment (after surgery in 2019), I could no longer climb stairs without pain.
“It hurts when I drive, it hurts when I sleep. It’s a never-ending nightmare.”
