British man Tyler Kerry from Basildon dies on holiday in Turkey
A 20-year-old British man has died after being found seriously injured in a lift shaft while on holiday in Türkiye.
Tyler Cree, from Basildon, Essex, was found at his hotel in Antalya on Friday morning.
The holidaymaker was described by his family as “a young man full of character, kindness and compassion who had his whole life ahead of him”.
A UK government spokesman said: “We are assisting the family of a British man who died in Türkiye.”
More than £4,500 has been pledged to a fundraiser set up to pay for Mr Kerry’s funeral costs.
He was vacationing in the seaside city with his grandparents Colette and Ray Cree, his girlfriend Molly and other relatives.
“Totally devastated”
Mr Kerry’s uncle Alex Price said he was found at 07:00 local time (04:00 GMT) but the family was not sure whether he was at the top of the lift or at the bottom of the shaft.
“The ambulance team arrived and attempted to resuscitate him but were unsuccessful,” Price told the BBC.
“We don’t know how he entered the elevator shaft or the events that preceded it.”
Mr Price said the family was provided with a death certificate after the autopsy was completed.
They hope his body will be repatriated by Tuesday.
Mr Price wrote on the GoFundMe page that his family were “completely devastated”.
He thanked people for their “kindness and concern” following his nephew’s death.
